2011 - 10 : Career Path

last night i was going though my old stuff and come across my external hard-drive. most of the material during my college year was in the hard-drive. I went through the old pictures and reminiscing the old time, wondering how fast the time pass-by.
One of the file startled me. it was my resume. the one that i used when i was applying job during my senior year. I went through the items that i put in the resume and wondering whether i still have the same skill that i used to have during my school year. i did lost some of the skill but i gain a lot more. realizing that, unconsciously, i started updating my resume.
i wasnt planning to submit it to anyone but the thought of doing that is lingering. Am i worth more than i was 3 years ago?
today, during my lunch hour, i shared a table with 2 ladies and i accidentally eavesdrop their conversation. i didnt listening to the whole things as i was busy pretending that i understood what my friend was talking about but apparently the lady told her friend a very interesting story.
she got a job with a company. she was told by her superior that he took her under him because nobody wanted her, she was very upset and confront the a boss from other department (a department that she supposed work in). and he told her, she was taken in her current department because nobody want to work with her current superior. i dont really get what happen next but basically they were talking about a superior that restrain the people to develop career path. and her friend told her about a company that she used to work with "you will only get promoted if you have at least 2 persons who is qualified to replace you".
i dont see that happen much but i was glad to say that i did happen to my current department. My current head of department is promoted to lead a larger department and he was promoting his current deputy to take over his current position.
you career path do not 100% depending on your capabilities. it was also depending on your superior's capabilities to groom you.
