I cant write anything better than other people have written on Gaza. I cant make myself watch all the pictures and video on Gaza. But i read some of the articles that my fellow friends posted on FB.
I just make me really sad and mad.
I heard about Israel and Palestine crisis since i was a kid. It was nothing more than a story to me at that time. However, as i grew-up, with all the exposure from social media, internet, the people..... it started to get to me.
I still remember my visit to the Holocaust Museum in Washington DC back in 2005 with Put. At that time i have no idea what Holocaust was. The entrance was free and we were given sort of passport of holocaust victim each so that we can identify ourselves with the victim. (i think). During that visit Put was mumbling something about the Nazi killed Jews because they were traitors (she said sort Jews cant be trusted) during the WW2. However, at the human level, i still cant accept anyone for any reason committed massacre. it's mean and inhuman.
Little that i know, what happen after "Holocaust" was worst. The nuclear bomb attack at Hiroshima and Nagasaki, the Vietnam war, the war at Iraq and Afganistan, Intifada at Palestine. So why does holocaust matter?
Jewish people are playing victims over the last century through media. Now, they are 21st century Nazi who "holocausting" people in Palestine. Sorry...i mean Zionist....they should stop playing victim because they are the predator. Maybe they should update the Holocaust Museum to the part when they are "holocausting" people in Gaza. So that they can give people at the Holocaust Museum 2 passports....one as the "holocaust" victim and the other as the "holocaust" predator. Interesting full experience package, isnt it?
They stole the land from the Palestinians, they killed the Palestinians, they killed the people who helped Palestinians, they blocked all the food and medical supply to Palestinians...it's outrageous. It's not a rocket science, it just simply a crime against humanity. and the "world police" let them get away with it......too much for war against terrorism and world peace haa...
Peace no war V.....

2012 - 20 : Property Investment and Me
A friend shared an ebook on property investment. Reading half way and skim through till the
end, I found out that it is a good manual on what to do if you want to buy a house.
Buying a house is a tedious thing, involving a lot of agreement, paperwork and
numbers.I learn it from experience.
It was in 2009. I had just started working for almost a year and lived with my brother’s family. My only financial commitment was my car. At that time, the economic had just about to recover from 2008 economic crisis. There were many houses on auctions as the result of economic downturn in the previous year. At that year, my brother was actively hunting for property since there are many good properties available in the market. While surveying the property, my brother came across a house that was on sale with a very good location and quite affordable. The owner wanted to let go of the housing since they were moving to the other state and they had nobody reliable to take care of the house.

After my brother suggestion, I decided to buy the house.
Why?
1)
The price was reasonable/affordable for a
freshgrad salary.
2)
The BLR at that time was the lowest in 20 years
(5.5%)
3)
The bank offered interest rate of BLR-2.05%. Good
deal huh…
4)
I heard that property investment has high return
5)
I thought
I was rich….haha….(it was before I learn what I had to pay for buying a house)
Honestly, i didn’t have any real knowledge about buying a
house. I just go with the flow. I didn’t even understand how BLR work. After a
few months being an official proud home owner, the reality hit me.
1)
I just realized that BLR increased. In fact in
2010, Bank Negara revised the BLR for 3 times (increasing trend). It turned out
I had to pay monthly mortgage about 30% higher than I expected.
2)
The lawyer agreement cost you thousand. It was
just a wordy document with repeated term and condition….but it did have value
in court.
3)
Since it wasn’t new house, I need to fix some of
the things around (not even a renovation). And it cost about 5 figures.
Apparently, I wasn’t that rich…haha
4)
Now and then, I will face problem like leaking,
broken pipe….it’s minor but irritating.
5)
The bank will chase you like a loanshark if you don’t
pay on-time. Even it’s only one day late.
6)
You have to pay cukai pintu, Indah Water bill
and insurance. I still don’t understand the insurance but it sort of come with
the loan.
But along the way, owning a house teaches me a lot of things;
1)
I started to understand the BLR movement.
2)
Managing expense/budgeting to cope with
financial commitment. It was hard at the initial stage but along the way, as
the income started to balance out the monthly financial commitment, I got some
extra space to spend some money around.
3)
Being more disciplines in managing my expenses.
Pay mortgage on time…actually I just issue standing instruction to the bank.
4)
If you own a house, you need to know a good/reliable
handyman. Mine wasn’t the best, but he’s ok.
5)
The risk of losing my job…huh…must love your job
unless you find better.
When it comes to property, I still have a lot to learn. Nothing is as easy as it sound but do not
settle less than you deserved.

2012 - 16 ; Excuses
Excuses prevents us from doing things that we want to do. Or are we really want to do it?
When talking about go diving
She : You've tried diving right?....how fun...i'm planning to do it as well....
Me : Let's go together sometime...
She : Off course...if there's a good deal...why not
A few days ago, i found good deal for open water diving class online and email the link to her.
Me : *the open water course link*
She :*It's not include the meal and boat transfer and also require basic swimming skill.*
Me : *link to a beginners swimming class*
She : *i'm not very comfortable with open pool*
Me : **Rolling eye**
When talking about using supporting company's product.
She : i really want to use P car but it's too expensive.
Me : You have more expensive brand new non-P car.
She : Yeah...but i just finished the loan for my old non-P car.
Me : Maybe you can just sell your other old non-P car and pay the down-payment for P car. Then, you can afford P car.
She : But i really love my old non-P car.
Me : :*rolling eyes*
Why people give excuses when they can just say NO? To avoid heart-feeling? At least they can save my time trying to solve their problem....why am i bother?...maybe because they have problem and i'm nice.

2012 - 15 : Typical
It was so random that one day, a few month ago, i got confuse between coolant and refrigerant in a car. Without goggling or researching further, i just popped the question to my colleagues;
Me : Sulaiman, what did the thing we put in the AC to keep it cold? Isnt it called coolant?
Sulaiman : No, it's refrigerant. Coolant is different thing.
Haslam : Coolant is the one that cool the engine. At radiator.
Sulaiman : Yeah...coolant is in liquid form and refrigerant is in gas form. Did your car AC not cold enough?
Me : No, i think my AC is too cold....maybe i need to ask them to take out some of the refrigerant gasses...
Sulaiman and Haslam : Hey...noooo....
Me : Dude....just kidding....daaaa....
Sulaiman and Haslam : Really...*sigh*...
I cant believe that for a split second they did think that i was serious....typical!!

2012 - 11 : What does and doesn't matter??
A question was asked that caught my eyes....
As a youth, what does and doesn't matter to you?
For me as a youth, everything matter....but as an adult it is important that we are financially literate. When i started my first job about 3 ++ years ago, i was surprised to know that my salary barely covered the lifestyle that i thought that i might have after graduation.
The other things that i realized that most of ppl who live above their means are in debt. Most of people around me started to get part time job to get some extra income to cover their expenses, to pay debt, to have a better life. it turned out that, the only way to have a better life in the future is to manage my financial properly now.
My rule of thumb;
-1/3 of your monthly income should be spend on the fix monthly expenses ( car loan, housing mortgage/rent, bills, insurance, education loan).
-10% of your income should go to saving.
- the balance will go to other miscellaneous expenses (gas, grocery, travel fund, entertainment, shopping, etc)
Once in a while, reward yourselves with something above your means (ie: a very nice handbag, shoes, dress, gadget). It does give satisfaction.
Over rewarding yourself with something above you mean will cause you in a deeper debt ( which is NO NO)
Fix income
- housing mortgage/rent - buying a house is a long term commitment (sometimes longer than a marriage). Most people believe that buying a house is a good investment. it really does. Just make sure that all hidden cost of owning a house is identified =).
-car loan - a car lifetime is 10 years ( it's a fact) and the price is going down. for domestic use, get a car that low fuel consumption, low maintenance and high quality. it is ok to pay high down payment for shorter monthly paying loan period.
- bill - save energy consumption, get the best package available.
-insurance - i got myself medical insurance for the sake of tax exemption. whatever come with it is just like added feature. i dont even buy all the investment crap that the insurance agent told me ( no offence). i just hate people who gain money by threaten other people insecurity.
Saving.
it is not for your old days (you already hv EPF for that)...it is more for emergency. or one of those days that you need a large amount of money immediately. Your saving should be at least 3 times to 12 times your monthly income.
Miscellaneous expenses
Some of it avoidable and some of it unavoidable. For example, a healthy meal is important but does it necessary to eat at a fancy restaurant everyday? i always pick a small portion of my miscellaneous expenses and put in my reward fund =P
Different people have different way of viewing their financial. Even the richest man in the world has debt. You method of managing your financial is totally your choice.

2011 - 35 : The Invitation
one day,a few years ago, while my mom was segregating wedding invitation card that she got, this conversation took place;
mom : i have 6 weddings to go tomorrow.
me : that's a lot. do you really have to go all six weddings? i dont think that you can afford to eat that much.
mom : it's not about the food. it's about their intention. inviting people is a choice. but once you are invited, it is your obligation to go.
me : owhhh....*6 is still a lot*
my first wedding invitation was in 2008. i received an invitation card in my mailbox. i was sooo flattered because i never got a wedding invitation card with my name on it. i make it to the wedding which was 500 km away.
not long after that, a friend of mine was hosting a bbq party. during the party, she distributed the card and i made it to the wedding which was about 1 hour drive.
after a while, i started to get wedding invitation card from my collegues. i didnt make it to most the wedding. i also got a few phone messages from my friends asking for my address to mail the invitation card. i got the card but i only manages to go to a few.
a new trend start, people start to invite all their fb contact via fb event invitation with a little note saying if you want a personal card, give me your address. and i never gave my address to open invitation. why? i'm not sure whether it is an invitation or just to inform.
when i look at all the wedding invitation cards that i personally received, i started to see intention, thought and hope. people put you in the list of the people to be invited, it should mean stg. they think about you. want you to be presented at their wedding. yet, how come i dont feel obligated to go. if only i could turn back time, i'll put more afford to go to all the invitation.
it's not the food or fancy card...it's the thought that matter.

2011 - 31 : Feed the curiosity
tonite, while i was having a very nice dinner gathering with my family, this conversation took place between me and my 10 years old nephew.
he : makteh, what does F.U.C.K mean?
me : what??
he : F.U.C.K
me : errr...it means a very bad word and you shouldnt use it ever.
he : but what if the word come with MOTHER?
me : still bad.....very bad...*WTH*
kids are just a bunch of curious creature. they see, hear, observe, ask question/copy. but the real questions to grown-up is whether we should give them a real answer or make-up stupid excuses to shut them up. we should be able to answer them, otherwise they might think that we are stupid.
i wish there are FAQs for this kind of questions.

2011 - 18 : Human Instinct
last week, my group was having a nice lunch with our former head of department. While having the lunch, he told us about instinct. He is known as a very details man. I remembered a couple years ago, when i had just started working and was assigned to prepare a paperwork for him. I had to redo the paper for more than 20 times. Everytime, i brought the paper to him, he will always find mistakes that i have to correct. But the sweetest thing was when he approved the paper. I felt like jumping.
Anyhow, he told us the secret on how he found the mistakes on the paper. He said it just a hunch. Sometimes, when he felt like something not right, he will look closely and he just find something that need to be corrected.
I remembered watching a documentaries on animal instinct. Animal survival depends on their instinct. for example, if they felt predator around, most probably, there's predator around. However, human dont really listen to the instinct. i guess most of the time we think logically rather than believe in instinct. Maybe, i should start listening to my instinct.

2011 - 15 : Bad Marketing
Last weekend i went to Tesco to do my weekend grocery shopping. Usually, i parked my car at indoor parking but it was quite far from the entrance. Done with shopping, i pushed the cart to the parking area to unload my grocery into my car. As i was looking for my car key inside my bag, a young guy approached me.
At first glance, i thought that he was one of the kids asking for charity but then he introduced himself as a representative from Anti-theft ......( i didnt catch the last part of the company he represented. Then, he asked me to spend some time for him to brief me on sth ( again, i wasnt pay attention)...i started to think that it could be some kind of survey.
Then he asked me "Have you ever heard about a car stolen in 2 minutes?". I was like "what? are you trying to steal my car". well, i didnt say it out loud but it did freak me out. i excused myself (with a quite stupid excuse but somehow he leave). After ensuring that he was nowhere around my car, i quickly unlock my car, got into car with all the grocery and locked the car as soon as possible.
I was a little paranoid, but what i was suppose to think. it is better safe then sorry.

2011 - 13 : Awkward and Uncomfortable
There's a thing that irritate me lately. I hope that by blogging it out, i will have a peace of mind. Have you ever been put in a very awkward and uncomfortable situation that you feel like want to punching someone? It was annoying that you change the subject trying to distract them (or hint that you are not comfortable on how the conversation is heading to) but they just pretend that it was like something funny and go on and on and on. dont you feel like punching someone to shut them up because action speak louder than words.
i can handle once or twice but everytime? the best thing i did is avoiding them. i was avoiding them for such a long time, that there's a time i forgot, hang-out with them again and it struck me. and you know that it was too late to run.
the worst thing is that i start treating some ppl badly just because what the other people said. exaggerating stories, telling lies, feel paranoid, avoiding....im getting sick of myself.
i'm done feeling awkward and uncomfortable, the next time around...i wont change the topic but i'll face it, i'll make them feel awkward and uncomfortable like they never feel before.
it wont be nice but i wont be sorry.

2011 - 12 : i'm not taking side
Yesterday, i went to watch X-Men First Class with my girlfriends. it was fun. the story lingered around Magneto and Prof X (Charles Xavier) during their youth. Basically, they were a good friend (before Magneto turned into bad guy). The bad guy in this movie was a guy named Shaw. He had the power to absorbed energy and reused later on. In one scene, Shaw was recruiting mutants to join his force and he said sth like "if you are not with me, you are my enemy".....it struck me....
In Star Wars Episode 3 - During the scene when Anakin and Obi-Wan duel, Anakin said the same thing to Obi-Wan.."If you are not with me, you are my enemy"
There's no such things as "being natural" because it always "it you are not with me, you are my enemy". it was always easier to be enemy of one side rather then enemy of both side.

2011 - 10 : Career Path
last night i was going though my old stuff and come across my external hard-drive. most of the material during my college year was in the hard-drive. I went through the old pictures and reminiscing the old time, wondering how fast the time pass-by.
One of the file startled me. it was my resume. the one that i used when i was applying job during my senior year. I went through the items that i put in the resume and wondering whether i still have the same skill that i used to have during my school year. i did lost some of the skill but i gain a lot more. realizing that, unconsciously, i started updating my resume.
i wasnt planning to submit it to anyone but the thought of doing that is lingering. Am i worth more than i was 3 years ago?
today, during my lunch hour, i shared a table with 2 ladies and i accidentally eavesdrop their conversation. i didnt listening to the whole things as i was busy pretending that i understood what my friend was talking about but apparently the lady told her friend a very interesting story.
she got a job with a company. she was told by her superior that he took her under him because nobody wanted her, she was very upset and confront the a boss from other department (a department that she supposed work in). and he told her, she was taken in her current department because nobody want to work with her current superior. i dont really get what happen next but basically they were talking about a superior that restrain the people to develop career path. and her friend told her about a company that she used to work with "you will only get promoted if you have at least 2 persons who is qualified to replace you".
i dont see that happen much but i was glad to say that i did happen to my current department. My current head of department is promoted to lead a larger department and he was promoting his current deputy to take over his current position.
you career path do not 100% depending on your capabilities. it was also depending on your superior's capabilities to groom you.

2011 - 09 : Punctuality Overrated
my work starts at 8am. I arrived at works +/- 3 minutes. And everyday, my department will have a morning meeting about the same time i arrived. Of course, sometime i arrived as the meeting has already started. can i consider myself as punctual nevertheless? Some people think that my daily time of attandance indicate poor time management. it does look bad but for some reason i just want to reduce the gap between my arrival and time to start work. i'm not a morning person, arriving early at work doesnt make me any productive. And so does what i believed in. i was judge by being 3 minutes late at work but nobody say anything if i being punctual for a meeting that start half an hour late.
it is something to wonder but it wont justify anything new.

2011 - 07 : The Change
Since i started working a lot of things around me changes. i was in an organization that changes name 3 times in two and half years, a lot of my friends got married and have kids. For good or bad, the only constant in life is changing. If you wish that everything will be the same forever, clearly you are not being realistic.
When things screw-up, ppl will say "this is not the way we used to do things". little that we know, nothing is the same. it doesnt matter that it is for the best or for the worse, it just wont be the same. no matter how perfect the procedure is, there's will be always somebody come along to change it. There's no such things as lesson learn because people believe that the consequences wont be the same because things changes.
if we dont change, we wont survive...stop whining and start changing.

2011 - 05 : We see when we are ready to see it.
A couple of days ago, i watched a rerun episode of 'How i met your mother". In this episode, Lily and Marshall met with the barney's fifth dopplegangers ( a look-alike people in their group). before, they made a pact that once they met the fifth doppleganger, it will be a sign from universe that they are ready to have kids. turned out that what they saw is barney not the dopplehangers. therefore they cancel their intention to have the kids. 4 months later, lily walked into the bar (where the gang hangout) and told them that she saw the fifth dopplegangers which turned out nothing like barney. but the gang realized that one see what she want to see when she ready to see it (meaning that lily is ready to have kids).
back to my life, last friday i talked to my colleague who used to be a lecturer. She told me that she was a lecturer at the college where i did my prep-school before went to US. And also, during the time i did my prep, she was a lecturer there (but in different program). it is funny the fact that i should have known her 7 years ago, but i just know her about 2 and half years ago.
i was amazed by the way God "directed" our life. all the plot came one by once in a very amazing order but along the way He made us met with the new characters that will appear in the future episode of out life without we realized it. we eat at the same cafe, we went to the same library, we know the same ppl but we will never meet each other till God decide it is the time.

2011 - 04 : Serendipity
Serendipity denotes the property of making fortunate discoveries while looking for something unrelated, or the occurrence of such a discovery during such a search. (translated by wikipedia). This word remind me of the several things that happen to me years..and some recent;
1) About 2 years ago, i went to Bandung, Indonesia with my sister and her friend. One of the shopping spot is Pasar Baru where we can find cheap clothes with quite high quality. One of the shop gave us a pretty good deal. The owner was very frinedly and we spent alot at his shop. That night we went dinner at a restaurant called Warung Pasta. A very nice restaurant near college area. While enjoying our dinner, the shop owner walked into the restaurant with his family and said 'hi' to us. Serendipity?
2) Last December, i went to Dubai with my friends. One day, we took a train to a mall. I sat next to Philiphinos ladies. Both of them talk to each other and i was just sitting and observing (not too obvious but i just enjoy listening foreigner talking). Arriving at the mall and doing some shoping, it's a lunch time. I went to the food court. After observing the menu offered, i decided to have Middle-eastern lunch set. when i placed my order, i saw that 2 Philiphinos ladies on the train working the "kiosk" where i bought my lunch. Serendipity or coincidence?
My point is that they are just random people that we dont even think of meeting for second time but we did. if it is some kind of sign...i just dont get it....because i believe on coincidence. Maybe it is a way universe told us that "be nice to random ppl bacause one way or another,we might see them again.
