BN win GE13....yeah....finally it's over....move on and make the best of everything. However, out of sudden the racial issue came into picture. When we talk about race it's quite complicated. A lot of people fail to acknowledge that race is not something that we can choose. Otherwise, i'm pretty sure a lot of malaysians will choose to be mat saleh/minah saleh....(no offend)...
Do you know that other race see your race look all the same? Something about our brain that have difficulties to distinguish individual of the same race. I must admit that up till today i still cant distinguish Korean vs Japanese vs Chinese...and im pretty sure that im not alone.
In Malaysia we have three major races Malay, Chinese and Indian.... Living together for years but we still generalized race by their look. If your physical look (something that you cant change....unless with plastic surgery) doesnt fit your race (also something that we cant change) it will absolutely raise questions....
I am Malay but I have fair skin and small eyes (which some people say typical Chinese look). When i was a kid, a lot of people told me that i looked different compared to my other sibling. If a kid was told that he/she look different that other sibling, automatically it will be translated as whether you are adopted? No i wasnt adopted...i didnt do the DNA test but what is the odd that people cant tell the differences between your voice and your sisters (something that we cant change)?...
In Malaysia also, whether we realized or not, there are stereotype behavioral characteristic that lingering each race. Fortunately, that is something that we CAN CHANGE. If someone is saying a bad thing about your race, we dont have to succumb to the bad stereotype. We shouldnt forget that it's something that we can change...as long as people dont ask you to change your physical look.
Why we have to focus on something that we cant change when there's thing that we can change? And i believe that is what Tun Mahathir has been fighting for years...for Malay to step out of bad stereotype...because that is something that we can do.
