2013 - 20 : China Trip

I was in China for about two week and half from Nov 17, 2013 to Dec 3rd, 2013 on business trip. It was my first time in China. However, honestly, at first i wasnt thrill about the trip. Maybe because i heard too much things about China that made me feel like there's nothing interesting to look forward too. or maybe i was wrong.
When it come to China, people always talked about shopping and how cheap the stuff are. yes it is. but the rule of thumb is always negotiate the price especially those stuff that have no price tag. most of the stuffs are without price tag. if you are interested, ask for the price. The seller will offer you the most ridiculous price that he can think of which make you the biggest dumbass if you agreed with that price. Once you disagree, they will ask you what price that you want to pay. Just give your best price. Then, they will say they price you asking is too low and lower their price a little bit. This process will go on for quite some time and might involved cursing. Although most of them are not very good in English, surprisingly they can curse pretty well. if it dragged for too long, walked away. most of the time, they will chase you and agree with your price.
It's a stupid games but sometime i just enjoyed it since i always have price for everything that i wanted to buy. It's like a game to see whether i can get the price that i want. and proudly say, most of the time i did get the price that i want.
Other thing that people talked about is how dirty the public toilet is. I cant really comment on it since i just avoid going to public toilet that is used by general public people. The one that i went was  not really clean but decent or meet the standard. But a friend of mine went to a very general public toilet and he said that it was horrible. Ewwww.....
Halal restaurants are "widely" available but please note that "widely" means that it's not impossible to find instead of it's available everywhere. I was surprised to see that they have varies mutton and beef menu compared to chicken. My friends were really enjoy the mutton that they would order it every meal but i just stayed with fish or chicken since i dont eat meat. The chicken is cut into small pieces (with bone)....weird but i guess it is to suit the chopstick pick size. For the drink, most of the restaurant normally serve chinese tea instead of water or they just give you a bowl of clear soup. So, i always have bottled water inside my bag.
At Shanghai, we stayed at a hotel very near to Nanjing Road East. It was a very busy  shopping street. it was very common for the guys to get approached by people who offered "escort service". I dont think prostitution is legal in China...but so does imitation stuff.....One day we walked in a group and i was leave slightly behind. A friend of mine offered to walk with me and he said "For safety, i'll better walk with you". Although i did think it was sweet since i was the only lady in the group, but it wasnt necessary because i really enjoy walking slowly at my own pace while enjoying the view . So i said "Dont worry too much. I'm safe." and then he said "not your safety...it's my safety".....i was "troll"....just like buying other stuff the guys also have hard time to get rid of the people who offered them "escort service"....apparently the only way to get rid this people is to have a girl around. There's a few funny + awkward moment when i get rid of the pimp just by showed up asking "what are you selling" while he was trying to offer my friend the "service"....
In general, it was a great experience for me and i did learnt a lot. i got a bad cold the first four days in China most likely because of the cold weather.Once recovered, i started to enjoy the cold weather which reminded me the time when i was in college. Then, i felt slightly homesick and bored of wearing layers at almost the end of the trip. Things that i might not be able to write or describe but it was a breakaway from a routine life. Love it or hate it....i got nothing to regret.
